Abstract

This chapter highlights about alternative domestic water supply from the lake water with designed treatment units. The pollution burden on India's rivers has increased as a result of the growth of industrialization and urbanization. Untreated sewage and direct dumping of wastewater into rivers and lakes are the main sources of pollution in these bodies of water. This affects aquatic life and the ecology of the water, increasing the prevalence of numerous waterborne diseases. Factors such as types of industries, habits of people, and non-point sources are responsible for the increase of the wastewater discharged into water bodies. In terms of its quick growth and development, Pune city becomes one of India’s growing and emerging cities. More and additional individuals from outside the city are migrating to Pune town. Based on the results of the above parameters, the Water Treatment Plant is designed may be useful to provide water to the surrounding areas as an emergency supply. The population increase in Pune throughout the last 2-3 decades has been significantly fast with a resultant outcome on the rise of pollution level. This chapter also examines the physicochemical characteristics of lake water in order to raise the water's quality. Additionally, create a water treatment facility to recycle lake water for local emergency supplies. Typically, the Katraj Area experiences a water shortage during the summer. The treated water can be used as a substitute for home water supplies and can be delivered by tankers.
