The SARS-CoV-2 virus, a member of the coronavirus family, is responsible for the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic. The impact of COVID-19 on cardiovascular health is multifaceted and includes a range of conditions such as myocarditis, acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, pericarditis, and pericardial effusion. The virus may cause direct damage to the heart or lead to myocardial infarction, left ventricular dysfunction resulting from myocarditis, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and vascular embolisms. People with preexisting heart conditions are at a heightened risk of severe infection and mortality. Additionally, certain medications used to treat COVID-19 may pose a risk of serious cardiac side effects. A comprehensive understanding of the varied cardiac implications of COVID-19 is critical for effective management of the infection and its complications.
