Abstract

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is most frequent among children and teenagers. IL-12, IL-23 and IL-27 belong to the IL-12 family which is the most important cytokine that has anti-tumor function and an association with the biological behavior of cancer. Based on their roles, this study measured their quantitative serum levels in pediatric with ALL (before and after induction of the chemotherapy required for treatments). Blood samples were obtained from 110 diagnosed ALL children and from 50 healthy children as a control group. The serum level of IL-12, 23, 27 were evaluated using ELISA test. It has been found that the levels of these cytokines were higher in all ALL patients as compared with their level in the control group and were also higher in relapse group than those in remission cases. These results indicated that these group of cytokines might be playing a role as a biomarker for pediatric ALL and an indicator of disease prognosis. As well, it might keep our attention to be considered as a guide for treatment response.
