Abstract

This study determined the predictive relationship of cognitive variables (Students' Logical Thinking and Mathematical abilities), affective variables (Emotional Intelligence and Attitudes Towards Stoichiometry), on students' achievement in stoichiometry at the senior secondary school level. The study sampled a total of four hundred class two senior secondary school students selected from private and public schools in Oyo town, Oyo State, Nigeria using a multistage sampling. The result indicates that only the cognitive variables had significantly predicted students' achievement in stoichiometry. Specifically, mathematical thinking ability was found to have a higher relative contribution to students' achievement in stoichiometry among the two cognitive variables.
