Abstract

A set of 60 highly homozygous lines of barley were evaluated to assess the genetic variation in some yield traits. The experimental layout was randomized complete design with two replications. Four traits were recorded; plant height (PH), spike length (SL), days to flowering (DTF), and chlorophyll content (CC). The results indicated high genetic variation between genotypes for all traits. The genotypic correlation was higher than the phenotypic correlation. The highest genotypic (0.35) and phenotypic (0.27) correlation was found between PH and SL. The highest heritability ranged from 58.34 for DTF to 79.02 for CC. These results indicate the possibility to improve yield traits in barley through the selection process in breeding programs.
