Abstract

The rapid urbanization demands a reimagining of urban spaces, emphasizing inclusivity and safety for all genders. This study delves into the realm of gender-inclusive urban public spaces, with a specific focus on ensuring women's safety. In urban landscapes filled with parks, streets and buildings, the study questions the comfort and inclusivity of these spaces for individuals regardless of their gender identity. Historically, urban planning skewed towards a male perspective, overlooking the diverse needs of women and other gender groups. In the context of improving gender-inclusive urban public spaces and prioritizing women safety, the study raises pivotal questions about the parameters contributing to safe urban public spaces for women and examines the extent to which current urban policies incorporate gender-inclusive principles. The study's objectives encompass analyzing essential elements shaping safe urban spaces, evaluating existing policies and identifying implementation gaps and studying international and national case studies to assess effective strategies. While the study concentrates on women's safety within the gender inclusivity framework, it acknowledges the complexity of gender dynamics, emphasizing the need for a more comprehensive approach. Scope of the study is focused on women’s safety within the domain of gender inclusivity in urban public spaces, thereby contributing to the ongoing discourse and endeavor to foster cities.
